Who’s it for and what’s it about?

An SVQ is a qualification accredited by the Scottish Qualification Authority, which is about gaining recognition for what you do in the workplace.

SHARE runs this qualification as part of the Modern Apprenticeship in Housing, but it is also a stand-alone qualification. It is an entry level qualification aimed at junior members of staff or those new to the sector.

To achieve the SVQ in Housing at Level 2 candidates need to complete six modules, three core and three optional from a bank of four optional.

 Three core

  • Develop and maintain relationships with housing customers
  • Maintain effective working relationships with housing colleagues and other stakeholders
  • Monitor and maintain health, safety and security.

This is an induction session

Plus three optional from four that SHARE is accredited to deliver

  • Use organisational IT
  • Give customers a positive impression of yourself and your organisation
  • Assess housing need
  • Respond to customer requests for repairs

How long should it take?

It is recommended that the SVQ takes around 9 months, but this is very dependent on individuals and achievement may be quicker.

What happens at induction?

At the induction day you will complete the registration with SQA and be familiarised with your portfolio, the methods of gathering evidence, you will meet your assessor and have any questions answered.

What happens next?

Your assessor will make arrangements to come out and meet up with you and your line manager, and discuss what is best for your optional units based on your job and what evidence you need to generate.  The assessor will meet up with the candidate on an on-going basis until all evidence is gathered and the portfolio is complete.
