Who’s it for and what’s it about?

This is a comprehensive six evening introductory course for new Committee/Board members or those who want, or need a refresher. It will introduce you to the work of housing associations and co-operatives helped by a group of highly experienced trainers. It will increase your understanding of the various aspects of the business and help you contribute more effectively in your Committee/Board meetings. It’s a great chance to learn the basics and network with colleagues.

 

Each module is regularly updated to reflect current issues.

Registered Social Landlords (RSLs) – an introduction

Learn about the history of housing associations in Scotland and identify the main types of RSLs and the work they undertake.

Role of the Committee/Board  

Understand the role of the Committee/Board in leading the organisation and appreciate the importance of confidentiality, codes of conduct and the Regulatory Code of Governance.

Housing Management - an introduction  

Get to grips with the basics of allocations, rent and estate management and gain confidence when discussing housing management policies at committee meetings.

Finance – an introduction  

Understand budgeting, income and expenditure and learn about the role of finance.

Maintenance– an introduction 

Learn about the organisation's role with regard to repairs and maintenance and any relevant legislation.

Development - an introduction

This session will provide an understanding of the development process.
